What does it mean to live artfully?
It is more than attending a concert, visiting a gallery, or admiring a sculpture. Living artfully means seeing beauty in everyday life, celebrating our shared stories, and creating places that inspire connection. It means recognizing that art is not something separate from our community—it is part of who we are.
In Ivins, we are fortunate to live in a place where dramatic red cliffs, open skies, and extraordinary creativity come together. Our natural landscape has long inspired artists, musicians, performers, writers, and makers. As our city grows, we have an exciting opportunity to ensure that our public spaces continue to reflect the people, history, and character that make Ivins unique.
That is the vision behind the Ivins City Arts Commission's current initiative.
Rather than creating public art that could exist anywhere, we are working to identify the unique "personality" of six distinct districts throughout our community. Each district has its own story to tell, its own rhythm, and its own sense of place. By understanding these identities, we can encourage art that feels authentic—art that belongs exactly where it stands.
The Tuacahn District

Home to one of the nation's most spectacular outdoor performing arts venues, the Tuacahn District celebrates creativity on a grand stage. Here, music, theater, dance, and storytelling inspire audiences from around the world. Public art in this district can capture the excitement, imagination, and transformative power of performance.
The Heritage District

Every community is shaped by the people who came before us. The Heritage District honors Ivins' early settlers, agricultural roots, and enduring traditions. Art here can preserve stories, celebrate resilience, and remind future generations of the foundations upon which our city was built.
The Resort District

Centered around Black Desert Resort, this district welcomes visitors from across the globe while showcasing the remarkable beauty of southern Utah. The Resort District offers opportunities for art that reflects hospitality, elegance, recreation, and our extraordinary natural surroundings, creating memorable experiences for both residents and guests.

The Central District
Running east to west through the heart of Ivins, the Central District is where daily life unfolds. It connects neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and people. As the city's primary corridor, it represents movement, vitality, and connection. Art here can become welcoming landmarks that encourage exploration and reinforce a strong sense of community. The Center Street horse sculptures at Black Desert, and the Whittaker wind sculptures at Old91 and Kwavasa already provide vibrant statements at the East and West entrances to the City.
The Unity District

Centered around Unity Park, this district embodies family, friendship, recreation, and belonging. It is a place where children play, neighbors gather, and community celebrations bring people together. Public art in the Unity District can reflect joy, inclusion, wellness, and the simple moments that strengthen our connections with one another.
The Kayenta Arts Village District

Kayenta has become one of the cultural treasures of the Southwest. Its galleries, studios, performance spaces, and working artists create an environment where creativity flourishes every day. Art in this district can celebrate innovation, artistic expression, and the collaborative spirit that has made Kayenta an enduring destination for both artists and art lovers.
Creating Places with Meaning
Public art is at its best when it tells a story. It helps visitors understand where they are, gives residents a sense of pride and ownership, and creates memorable places that people want to return to again and again.
By identifying the personality of each district, we are building a thoughtful framework for future artistic projects. This approach allows each sculpture, mural, installation, landscape feature, or gathering space to contribute to a larger narrative about Ivins. Instead of isolated works of art, we envision an interconnected community where every district expresses its own unique identity while contributing to the character of the city as a whole.
An Invitation to the Community

The Arts Commission cannot define these districts alone. The most meaningful ideas come from the people who live, work, create, and spend time in these places every day.
As this process moves forward, we invite residents to share their observations, memories, and aspirations. What makes each district special? What stories deserve to be remembered? What experiences should future generations have when they visit these places? How you define the neighborhood that you call home?
Your voice will help shape the future of art in Ivins.
Living artfully is not simply about placing beautiful objects throughout our city. It is about creating a community where art reflects our values, celebrates our history, embraces our future, and enriches everyday life.
Together, we can create an Ivins where every district has its own personality, every work of art has a purpose, and every resident has the opportunity to experience the inspiration that comes from living in a community that truly lives artfully.
